Since I was younger, my sister and I had allergies. My parents didn't have similar allergies, so we always wondered where they came from. I grew out of my allergies as we got older, but my sister didn't. As my curiosity grew, I decided to write a review paper compiling information regarding seasonal and food allergies to see if I could identify a pattern of why this is the case.
After writing my paper on allergies, I became more interested in statistics and expected trends. As I took a Statistics class in school, my final project was to make a report on a piece of data. I used Boston Payroll to analyze data and observe significant trends. This was one of my favorite school projects, and I learned a lot about compiling raw data and graphing.
As I took Modern World in my junior year, our final project was to write a research paper. The historical topic is what interested us and changed throughout history. We had to support our case with the liberal or conservative approach. Choosing which approach is most effective is purely based on the strength of evidence and not on opinion, which made the project challenging. I chose gender inequality as the liberal approach.
My Capstone project for English 11 was to write a research paper on a dilemma in the world. I was interested in the connection between social media use and mental health. While looking at both the good and negative consequences with new gathered information, a stronger understanding on this could help improve connections between social media and mental health.
As my interest grew in gathering research for my paper, I did not know how to construct and collect the correct data. To overcome this obstacle, I took a college course that helped guide me on the critical aspects of research work. The course, "Clinical Trials Resulting in Medical Discoveries" helped me become more familiar with the research field as a new member!
